The Property and Evidence Unit is responsible for the inventory, storage, return and/or disposal of all property seized or recovered by KCPD.
Public hours of operation are Monday-Thursday 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
How to Claim Property
Anyone whose property has been siezed will receive a 3x5 inch postcard notification in the mail. All unclaimed property is held for 40 days. It is discarded 40 days from the mailing date of the 3x5 postcard. Citizens are advised to call the Property and Evidence Unit BEFORE arriving to pick up property items.
Citizens can visit www.propertyroom.com for any unclaimed items or items they believe are stolen.

Citizens will need to schedule an appointment to retrieve their weapons. If a weapon was seized due to a drug possession, citizens will need to contact the Drug Enforcement Unit to obtain a property release. Additionally, if a citizen has a weapon that was seized for any other criminal activity, a release is needed from the detective handling the case.
