The City of Kansas City, Mo., Dispute Resolution/Community Relations section of the Human Relations Division has been eliminated due to adoption of the fiscal year 2009-10 budget. Reduction in Force procedures also eliminated all remaining staff in that office last week.

Health Department investigating local tuberculosis case Thursday, April 23, 2009
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Health Department is conducting a contact investigation of a tuberculosis case in a student at East High School. Disease investigators are scheduling TB skin-tests for those who may have been exposed and are actively investigating to determine if other TB cases may arise from this exposure.

Five red-light safety cameras to go live May 4 Monday, April 20, 2009
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Public Works Department today announced that work is nearly complete on five red-light safety camera installations scheduled to begin operation May 4. The new installations are at the intersections of: Wornall Road and 79th Street; 63rd Street and Prospect Avenue; 39th and Main streets; 19th and Walnut streets; and Southwest Trafficway and 27th Street.

New City department to be located on 11th floor of City Hall Monday, April 20, 2009
The recently created City of Kansas City, Mo., Housing and Community Development Department will be located on the 11th floor of City Hall, 414 E. 12th St. The department, which includes the Housing Program and Planning Division, the Portfolio Management Division and the Property Preservation Division, will be fully operational April 27.

Local intimate partner violence report released Wednesday, April 15, 2009
The Environmental Health and Safety Group presented a report today to the City Council’s Public Safety and Neighborhoods Committee on the financial impact of intimate partner violence in the Kansas City area. Intimate partner violence is a type of domestic violence that is specific to current or former intimate partners.

New WIC clinic location to open April 15 Tuesday, April 14, 2009
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Health Department is partnering with Center School District to provide women, infant and child services, commonly known as WIC, at Boone Elementary School, 8817 Wornall Road, from 8:30-11 a.m. on Wednesdays starting April 15.

City to hold fair housing/civil rights summit April 24 Friday, April 10, 2009
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Human Relations Division of the City Manager’s Office is celebrating National Fair Housing Month with a fair housing/civil rights summit on April 24. The event, which begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Embassy Suites Hotel, 220 W. 43rd St., is open to the public, but reservations are required by April 20. The theme for the event is “Protecting Civil Rights in a Time of Economic Crisis.”

Health Department to extend STD clinic hours in April Friday, April 3, 2009
In recognition of Sexually Transmitted Disease Awareness month, the City of Kansas City, Mo., Health Department will temporarily extend the hours of the sexually transmitted disease clinic at 2400 Troost Ave. On April 6, 13, 20 and 27, the clinic will remain open until 6:30 p.m. The extended hours are for testing only. Any treatment will take place during the normal clinic hours.
