City conducts survey to determine fair housing obstacles Wednesday, November 3, 2010
The City of Kansas City, Mo. and eight nearby jurisdictions have embarked on an “Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice” study to determine existing barriers to achieving fair housing for all residents in the metropolitan area.

Pertussis and other childhood vaccinations are vital Wednesday, November 3, 2010
Dr. Rex Archer, director of the City of Kansas City, Mo., Health Department, urges residents to take precautions against pertussis, also known as whooping cough. Of the City’s 26 cases reported so far in 2010, 24 have been in children 14-years-old and younger. Many of these were in families where the children were not fully vaccinated. In California, a pertussis outbreak has resulted in the deaths of 10 infants so far this year.

Dodgeball tournament’s early bird deadline extended to Nov. 10 Tuesday, November 2, 2010
The early bird deadline to Dodging Homelessness, a dodgeball tournament taking place to raise youth homelessness awareness, has been extended to Nov. 10. The tournament will be held on Saturday, Nov. 13 at Southeast Community Center, 4201 E. 63rd St. and is sponsored by the City of Kansas City, Mo., Office of Civic and Community Engagement, and reStart Inc., an interfaith ministry that serves the homeless.

Residents advised about wastewater overflow into Blue River Watershed Monday, November 1, 2010
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Water Services Department reports a wastewater overflow due to debris in the sewer line. A manhole located at the rear of 5404 E. 97th St. overflowed into an unnamed storm drainage that leads to the Blue River. The overflow was found at 3:47 p.m. and flow was restored by 6:15 p.m.

Wastewater overflows into Indian Creek watershed Friday, October 29, 2010
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Water Services Department reports a wastewater overflow due to a debris (toilet paper and sanitary products) blockage. An overflowing manhole at the intersection of Wornall Road and 103rd Street was found on Thursday, Oct. 28 at 3:15 p.m. The blockage was cleared and flow returned to normal at 5:45 p.m.

Construction crews will also open the intersection of Northwest Waukomis Avenue and North Gower Drive to local traffic this evening.

The clinic, formerly at Baptiste Educational Center, 5401 E. 103 St., will be relocated to the school district’s Early Childhood Education Center, 9201 E. Bannister Road starting Tuesday, Oct. 26. The clinic will be open from 8 a.m.to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays.
