City’s Homesteading Authority and Bank of America partner to repair donated vacant property
The Kansas City, Mo., Homesteading Authority and Bank of America will celebrate the completed repair of a vacant home donated to the City by Bank of America. The event will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 18 at 10 a.m. at the home, located at 2023 Garfield Ave.
Bank of America donated the home to the Homesteading Authority, in conjunction with a program to revitalize communities affected by foreclosure and property abandonment. Providence Partnership LLC then purchased the home and completed the needed repairs and renovations. The home will be sold to a first-time homebuyer family who will occupy the home.
“The ribbon cutting is being held to express our appreciation to Bank of America for being a good community partner and to Providence Partnership for helping ensure a successful outcome for this home – and neighborhood,” said David Park, deputy director of the Neighborhoods and Housing Services Department.
Bank of America is in the process of donating 16 homes to the Homesteading Authority as part of a commitment to donate 75 properties under a memorandum of understanding partnership with the City. Of those, 10 are expected to be repaired and six are to be demolished. Two homes have been sold and one is under contract to be occupied by new owners. Bank of America has also provided funding to assist with repairs and demolition.
“Bank of America is committed to helping stabilize and revitalize neighborhoods that have been hit hard in the economic downturn,” said Spence Heddens, Kansas City president of Bank of America. “We are pleased to be working together with the City of Kansas City, Mo., the Homesteading Authority and their non-profit partners to provide access to homes while at the same time rebuilding communities.”
Other homes for sale by the Homesteading Authority may be found on their website at www.kchomesteading.org.
