Crews reopen 63rd Street ahead of schedule

Construction on an extensive South Kansas City road improvement entered its final phase on Friday, Dec. 7 with the reopening of 63rd Street between Swope Parkway and Bruce R. Watkins Parkway.

Crews reopened the roadway shortly before evening rush hour. Traffic control at Meyer Boulevard and Swope Parkway was removed as well, returning the roadway to normal function.

The 63rd Street project will update and improve 63rd Street between Chestnut Avenue and Jackson Avenue. In addition to reconstructing the roadway, the $5.4 million project replaced curbs and sidewalks and upgraded traffic signals on the roadway.

Crews will continue work on 63rd Street between Swope Parkway and Jackson Avenue through summer 2013. Lane restrictions will be required, but the road will be open to through traffic during construction.

Media inquiries and other requests for more information about this project should be directed to Sean Demory, Public Works Department, at 816-513-0059 or email
