Shoal Creek Trail extension begins construction
Work starts to connect the Shoal Creek Trail to Barry Road
The City of Kansas City, Mo., is advising residents that construction crews today began work to extend the Shoal Creek Trail to Barry Road. This phase of the 10-foot-wide concrete trail starts near the intersection of Maplewoods Parkway and North Agnes Avenue and follows Shoal Creek until the intersection of Barry Road and North Highland Avenue. The project will include a new bridge and a connection to the Maple Woods Community College campus. The trail will be constructed on an easement provided by the Metropolitan Community College District of Kansas City and within the Kansas City, Mo., Parks and Recreation Department's Maplewoods Greenway.
The $945,000 project was funded by a $500,000 federal grant and through funds provided by the City’s capital improvement sales tax. When complete, the Shoal Creek Trail will be more than two miles long from Happy Rock Park to Barry Road.
Residents who decide to explore the area near the trail construction are asked to be aware of any construction equipment and to avoid recently-placed concrete to allow it time to dry. Foot and bike prints are an expensive and unnecessary repair. The City appreciates residents’ cooperation.
This project is being completed through a joint partnership between the City’s Public Works and Parks and Recreation departments.
