FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 23, 2009
12th Street Viaduct construction will result in lane closures
The City of Kansas City, Mo., is alerting motorists that extensive construction will result in lane closures on the 12th Street Viaduct starting today. Construction crews will close two lanes of the four lane bridge on the upper deck of the 12th Street Viaduct for about one year. In addition, the middle deck of the structure will be closed during that time to ensure safety.
One lane in each direction will remain open throughout construction. Completion of the final phase of construction is slated for mid-summer 2010.
Workers will start on the third phase of rehabilitation and repair on the bridge by repairing the upper and middle bridge decks and replacing expansion joints, barriers and streetlights on the structure. Previous phases repaired and rehabilitated the substructure and middle deck of the structure.
All construction and demolition work is done as long as the weather permits. Drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians are reminded to use caution in areas adjacent to active construction sites.
