Kansas City Project Hope opens today

Project provides homelessness prevention assistance to those who qualify

The City of Kansas City, Mo.’s new homelessness prevention and rapid re-housing program, Kansas City Project Hope, began operation today. The project is funded by a U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

Kansas City Project Hope will provide homelessness prevention assistance to households who would otherwise become homeless – many due to the economic crisis – and to provide assistance to rapidly re-house persons who are homeless. Applicants must meet be at or below 50 percent of area median income and meet other applicable federal guidelines.

“Kansas City Project Hope captures the spirit of Kansas City and the belief that if we work together we can improve the quality of life for all our residents and make our neighborhoods safer and more prosperous,” said David Park, acting director of the Neighborhood and Community Services Department.

To access Kansas City Project Hope, applicants may call the Untied Way referral service at 2-1-1 or (816) 474-5112 to obtain a referral to an authorized service center. The project serves Kansas City and Clay County residents.
