Shepherd to manage City’s emergency operations
City of Kansas City, Mo., Acting City Manager Troy Schulte has announced the appointment of Gene Shepherd to the position of emergency preparedness manager effective immediately. Shepherd, a lifelong resident of the City of Kansas City, Mo., most recently served the City as a deputy chief in the Fire Department.
“The City is fortunate to have someone from within its own ranks with the depth of experience required to fill this critical position,” Schulte said. “We have great confidence in Gene Shepherd’s ability to anticipate, plan and manage the City’s emergency operations efforts and coordinate City activities with other emergency agencies at various jurisdictional levels.”
As a deputy chief with 32 years of service with the Kansas City Mo. Fire Department, Shepherd’s responsibilities included emergency operations related to large-scale fires, rescue operations and emergency medical service. He also oversaw the maintenance and construction of Fire Department facilities and the procurement of fire apparatus and equipment.
Shepherd holds an associate’s degree in fire science from Metropolitan Community College and is currently completing a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration at Park University.
