Northwest Waukomis Drive reopens to local traffic

The City of Kansas City, Mo. is advising motorists that construction crews will reopen Northwest Bryan Avenue between Northwest Waukomis Avenue and Northwest 64th Street to local traffic this evening. Construction crews will also open the intersection of Northwest Waukomis Avenue and North Gower Drive to local traffic this evening.

The road was closed as part of the Northwest 64th-68th Street/North Gower Drive connector project. This project will realign North Gower Drive to smooth out the connection of Northwest 64th Street with Northwest 68th Street/Waukomis Drive and upgrade traffic capacity in the area from two lanes to four lanes. In addition, the Bryan Avenue Bridge, three box culverts adjacent to Northwest Waukomis and a water main have been replaced.

North Gower Drive reopened between 64th and 68th streets in early September.

“This is an important link for the citizens of the Northland,” said Pat Klein, acting manager of the City’s Capital Projects Office. “We are glad to open this vital roadway to local traffic and look forward to completing our construction activities soon.”

Landscaping and sidewalk construction will continue for several weeks but will not impact traffic. Street lights and traffic signals will also be installed.

Construction started on the North Gower Drive project in early 2009 and is scheduled for completion in late 2010. The Capital Projects Office is managing the design and construction of this project for the City.

Media inquiries should be directed to Sean Demory, communications manager for the Capital Projects Office, 816-513-0059.
