Aim4Peace, Community Mediation Center partner to offer classes

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Health Department’s Aim4Peace program joins with the Community Mediation Center with funding provided by the JAMS Foundation to present classes on restorative justice and conflict mediation for area residents. The first of five classes will be offered on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012 from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the Linwood Family YMCA, 3800 Linwood Blvd.

“Our goal with these classes is to introduce residents to the principles of restorative justice and show how conflict mediation tools may be helpful to them,” said Dr. Rex Archer, director of the Health Department. “They are part of the collective CMC / Aim4Peace mission to teach the community to handle their own disputes in a non-violent manner.”

Staff from the Community Mediation Center will facilitate the classes.

“These classes will invite residents to learn about and discuss restorative justice, an alternative response to harm, where all voices are valued and heard, and to look at the opportunity for growth and change in the midst of conflict,” said CMC Director Annette Lantz-Simmons.

The classes will be held at five locations on different dates as listed below.
