City to deconstruct homes on East Patrol Campus
Mandatory Pre-Bid Conference on Oct. 22 includes
Section 3 Contractor Networking Session
As part of its commitment to achieve a LEED Gold rating for the future City of Kansas City, Mo., Police Department’s East Patrol Division Station and Crime Lab Campus, the City has issued an invitation to bid to deconstruct, rather than demolish, selected homes on the four-block site located at 27th Street and Prospect Avenue. Materials salvaged from the deconstructed homes will be recycled or reused, as well as used within the community.
A mandatory pre-bid conference and Section 3 networking session will take place on Monday, Oct. 22 at 9 a.m. at the Gem Theater, 1615 E. 18th St., for companies interested in submitting a bid for deconstruction services.
The networking event will provide subcontractors and Section 3-certified Business Concerns the opportunity to become acquainted with the prime contractors that will bid the project and will help facilitate the development of partnerships.
“We had a record turnout of more than 70 local contractors, subcontractors and Section 3 businesses at a similar event for this project in late September,” said Third District Councilman Jermaine Reed. “This networking event will help individuals and businesses connect to contracts and jobs for a $57 million project in the heart of their own neighborhood.”
Because the project is a designatedHUD Section 3 project, there will be increased contract opportunities for Section 3-certified Business Concerns located inand aroundthe project area. During the construction phase, the City aims to use 10 percent of the contract to hire Section 3-certified businesses, and the workforce-hiring goal intends that 30 percent of newly hired employees are Section 3-certified residents. Businesses or individuals can apply for Section 3 certification through the City’s Section 3 office in the Historic Lincoln Building at 1601 E. 18th St.
Bidding documents are available online to all interested parties on the Kansas City, Mo., Plan Room, www.kcmoplanroom.org. Bids are due Tuesday, Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. All addenda, including pre-bid attendance lists and any changes to the bid opening date, will be posted at www.kcmoplanroom.org.
