Northwest 72nd Street reopens Oct. 7

Road improvements include sidewalks, bike lanes

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Public Works Department is notifying motorists that crews will complete major construction on Northwest 72nd Street near Interstate 29 on Monday, Oct. 7.

The roadway project, which started construction in spring 2013, added substantial improvements to Northwest 72nd Street. The road had received no significant upgrades since it was first paved in the 1970s. Obstructed sight lines and open ditches hindered traffic flow and access for pedestrians to commercial centers, churches and Plaza Middle School.

The improved roadway includes a three-lane street with curbs, a sidewalk on its south side, street lights and accommodations for bicyclists. Improved storm drainage and roadway leveling was also completed to improve safety and convenience for residents and motorists.

Additional work may take place off of the roadway, but it will pose no significant inconvenience to motorists.
