Oct. 1 event honors Good Neighbor Award winners

City will offer free rabies vaccination and microchip for pet owners

City of Kansas City, Mo., Mayor Sly James will present the seventh annual Good Neighbor Awards at Kansas City United Against Crime’s first ever event to promote public safety and community policing. The event will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 1 from 4-7 p.m. in Swope Park near the pavilion.

The event will also feature free rabies vaccinations, an appearance by McGruff the Crime Dog, bouncy houses, food and music.

Good Neighbor Award recipients are nominated by neighborhood associations, community groups and residents, and chosen by the City’s Neighborhood Services Division and the 311 Call Center. Nominations can be made year round by emailing ncs@kcmo.org, faxing 816-513-3201 or calling 311 or 816-513-1313.

Also at the event, the City’s Animal Health and Public Safety Division in partnership with Spay & Neuter Kansas City will offer pet owners a free rabies vaccination and microchip with the purchase of a City pet license for $10. This offer is open to all City pet owners who are not current on rabies and pet licensing. All pets must be on a leash or in a carrier.
