Awards recognize benefits to environment and money saved

On Sept. 26 at 10 a.m., Mayor Kay Barnes and J.C. Alonzo will present environmental achievement awards to City employees who have significantly improved the environment in Kansas City. The awards ceremony will be held in City Hall on the 25th floor in Room D. Alonzo is the chairman of the City's Environmental Management Commission.

In addition to improving the environment, the award winners have saved the City nearly $2 million per year through reduced waste and reduced energy costs.

The Environmental Achievement Awards were created by the Environmental Management Commission. The commission is composed of citizens appointed by the Mayor to advise the City on environmental matters.
