Public invited to Neighborhood Leaders Legacy Awards Banquet

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Neighborhoods and Housing Services Department invites the public to join Mayor Sly James and other esteemed guests as they honor several Kansas City residents who have made a difference in the community.

This recognition will take place at the 2013 Neighborhood Leaders Legacy Awards Banquet on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 4 p.m. at the Kauffman Foundation Conference Center, 4801 Rockhill Road. Admission is free, but pre-registration is required, as space is very limited. Business formal attire is requested.

This banquet will award residents who provide

exemplary community leadership, commitment and dedication to enhancing the livability of their neighborhood. Mayor James and the City Council selected one or two residents from each district to recognize.

Congratulations to this year’s awardees: Keith Nelson, Martha Edmunds, Delores Johnson, Margaret May, Bobbi Baker-Hughes, Curtis Watkins, Becky Forrest, Brenda Thomas, Stacey Johnson-Cosby and Carol Winterowd.

In addition, the Alvin L. Brooks Perseverance Award will be awarded to Bobbie Proctor; the James I. Threatt Courage Award will be awarded to Lynda M. Callon; and the Kansas City Spirit of Partnership Award will be presented to reStart, Inc.

Banquet guests will enjoy soft jazz and dinner. Tony Salazar of McCormack Baron Salazar will give a keynote speech on community development and neighborhood transformation. Mayor Sly James, City Manager Troy Schulte and other City leaders also will share remarks.

Individuals interested in attending the banquet are asked to please RSVP with Tiffany Drummer, Neighborhoods and Housing Services Department, at 816-513-4504 by Monday, Sept. 23 at 5 p.m. Space is extremely limited, so interested guests are encouraged to register as soon as possible.
