Community to rally kids back to school

The City of Kansas City, Mo., has partnered with local businesses, including Children’s Mercy Family Health Partners, Carter Broadcast, Inc., and KCWE-29, to host a Community Back to School Rally on Saturday, July 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Union Station, 30 W. Pershing Road.

The event remains one of the largest school supply distributions in the Kansas City metropolitan area. Volunteers will distribute 2,000 backpacks with school supplies and 2,000 white school uniform shirts. Children must be accompanied by an adult to receive the school supplies.

“This Back to School Rally shows that our community is committed to ensuring that every child is prepared for school,” Mayor Sly James commented. “With the necessities taken care of, these students can start the school year focused on learning.”

Other supporters of the event include: the City of Kansas City, Mo., Mayor Sly James and City Council; CH2M HILL; KCP&L; and Burns and McDonnell.

Media inquiries and other requests for more information about the rally should be directed to Thalia Cherry at 816-377-1832.
