Front Street closes for streetlight test
The City of Kansas City, Mo., is advising motorists that a test of new, environmentally-friendly streetlights will close Front Street between Grand Boulevard and North Lydia Avenue for four days, starting Thursday, July 28.
Low-energy light-emitting diode (LED) streetlights were installed as part of the extensive improvements made to Front Street. These high-efficiency lights illuminate the roadway at a fraction of the cost of conventional lighting, and are one of many environmentally-friendly improvements included in the project.
Roadway improvements on Front Street include the re-alignment of the roadway along Richard Berkeley Park from the Grand Avenue Viaduct to the Christopher S. Bond Bridge. Improvements include construction of a four-lane divided arterial roadway with a pedestrian trail, streetlights, storm water control and parking lot improvements. This work is being managed by the City’s Capital Projects Department for the Kansas City Public Works Department.
The road is scheduled to reopen on Monday, Aug. 1.
Media inquiries and other requests for more information about this closure or the Front Street project should be directed to Sean Demory, Capital Projects Department, at 816-513-0059.
