City receives Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award
For the second consecutive year, the City of Kansas City, Mo., General Services Department’s Procurement Services Division has received the 2011 Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award, sponsored by the National Purchasing Institute.
This prestigious award is presented to organizations that demonstrate excellence in procurement based on high standards of innovation, professionalism, e-procurement, productivity and leadership attributes of the procurement function.
“I’m proud that the City of Kansas City has been recognized once again for its efficient procurement policies,” said Mayor Sly James. “This is a great example of the behind-the-scenes work going on at City Hall that makes city business run smoothly.”
The City was one of only three government agencies in Missouri, and one of only 57 cities nationwide to achieve this honor.
“The Procurement Division is proud to again be recognized with the Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award,” said Cedric Rowan, the division’s procurement manager. “Our highly capable staff of certified buyers and contract administrators strives daily to maximize the value of each dollar entrusted to us by the citizens of Kansas City. The Procurement Division is committed to always serving the City and its residents by doing the best job possible.”
The Procurement Services Division employs 25 workers and manages the City’s Surplus Property Section, Mail Center and Print Center.
In addition to the National Purchasing Institute, the Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award is also sponsored by the California Association of Public Procurement Officers, Institute for Supply Management, Florida Association of Public Procurement Officials, National Institute of Governmental Purchasing,NationalAssociation of State Procurement Officials, National Association of Educational Procurement, and Texas Public Purchasing Association.Associate sponsors are the Airport Purchasing Group, U.S. Communities, the National Intergovernmental Purchasing Alliance, and Universal Public Purchasing Certification Council.
