Residents advised about wastewater overflow into the Brush Creek Watershed

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Water Services Department reports a wastewater overflow due to debris (trash)in the manhole.

A manhole located at 4500 Cleveland Ave. bypassed into an unnamed creek leading to Brush Creek on Saturday, July 23 at a rate of 25 gallons per minute. The bypass was discovered at 2:30 p.m. while crews were responding to a bad odor complaint.

The debris stoppage was opened in the mouth of manhole at 3:15 p.m. before containment could be implemented. The bypass totaled 1,125 gallons. Bypass pumping was implemented to remove the sewage from the creek. Signs were posted.
