North Amity Avenue reopens to regular traffic
City of Kansas City, Mo., crews completed major construction activity on North Amity Avenue on Monday, July 18 and will reopen the roadway between Barry Road and Missouri Highway 152 on Tuesday, July 19, almost a month ahead of schedule.
“We are extremely pleased to reopen North Amity ahead of our projected schedule,” said Second District Councilman Russ Johnson. “Our crews will continue to work quickly and efficiently to provide residents and motorists with the modern, safe roadway they deserve.”
The North Amity Avenue improvements replaced the old roadway with a four-lane improved road with bicycle lanes, curbs and sidewalks between Northwest Barry Road and Missouri Highway 152. In addition, culverts were replaced at Northwest 86th Terrace and Northwest 87th Terrace. Although the road will reopen July 19, construction will continue on the sidewalk and shoulder area of North Amity Avenue. This should not adversely impact traffic flow.
“The improvements to North Amity are long overdue and sorely needed,” said Second District Councilman at Large Ed Ford. “This road will serve the needs of commuters while maintaining the area’s livability and accessibility.”
The Capital Projects Department managed the design and construction of this project for the City’s Public Works Department. Construction on this phase of the project is scheduled for completion in mid-August.
