Residents invited to Avenue of the Arts opening reception June 15
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Municipal Art Commission will celebrate this summer’s 11th Annual Avenue of the Arts temporary public art exhibition during an opening reception at the Folly Theater, 300 W. 12th St., on Friday, June 15 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
The Avenue of the Arts program is an annual summer exhibition of temporary public artwork created by seven regional artists. The art installations are placed on Central Avenue between 10th and 16th streets. The exhibition opened May 25 and will close Sept. 30.
The family-friendly opening reception will celebrate downtown Kansas City while introducing this year’s Avenue of the Arts’ artwork and artists. This year’s featured artists include: Christa Dalien, Robert Goetz, Gina Alvarez, Marilyn Mahoney, Stewart Losee, Sue Friesz and Jarrett Mellenbruch. Light food, soft drinks, beer and wine will be served. A pedi-cab will be available to shuttle the public up and down the Avenue of the Arts.
Art installations are selected by a panel comprised of arts professionals, business representatives and community representatives. The exhibition provides a unique opportunity for artists to gain direct experience with the development and installation of art in the public environment.
Avenue of the Arts is administered by the City’s Municipal Art Commission, in partnership with the Avenue of the Arts Foundation (360ºArchitecture and DST Systems Inc.).
