City employees volunteer at annual ‘Stand Down’ for homeless vets
More than 60 City of Kansas City, Mo., employees will volunteer at the "Heart of America Annual Stand Down" for Kansas City’s homeless veterans on June 5-6.
The 16th annual event will be from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 5 and from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 6 at the Manual Career Tech Center, 1215 E. Truman Road. Volunteers will help staff various booths, which will provide identification cards, clothing, hair cuts, warm meals, entertainment and tax preparation.
On June 6, homeless veterans in need of court services will be transported to Municipal Court, 1101 Locust St., for help with legal matters. Municipal Court employees will help veterans with these issues.
City employees also will help to dismantle booths on June 6 at the end of the project.
