KCI Airport passenger traffic up 3.0 percent in April

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Aviation Department reports that Kansas City International Airport recorded 794,969 passengers arriving and departing through its gates in April, which represents an increase of 3.09 percent from April 2009. Passenger boardings at KCI were up 3.3 percent, with a total of 400,224 during April. For the year to date, boardings at KCI totaled 1,468,799, an increase of 1.6 percent from the same period last year.

The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for April was 191. Service was offered to 47 nonstop markets. There was an average of 36,972 arriving and departing seats available in the market each day, down 3.3 percent from last year.

“April’s year-over-year growth marked the second highest increase since January 2008," said Justin Meyer, air service development manager for the Kansas City Aviation Department. "Airlines are responding to the region’s rebounding demand by adding flights at KCI, including Frontier Airlines’ recently inaugurated nonstop service to Columbus and New Orleans."

Air cargo tonnages, which consist of both freight and mail transported by air, for all carriers at KCI were up 2.0 percent in April. For the year to date, air cargo at KCI is down 8.2 percent from the same period last year. Air freight handled at KCI during April amounted to over 15 million pounds, which represents a year-over-year increase of 2.8 percent. Air mail for April was down 14.7 percent from April 2009. The all-cargo carriers reported 5 daily departures for April.
