Public hearing May 24 for Red Bridge improvements
The Capital Improvements Management Office has scheduled an open house/public hearing about the Red Bridge Road improvements between Holmes Road and Blue River Road. The session will be May 24, from 6-8 p.m. at the Saint Catherine of Siena Parish, 4101 E. 105th Terrace, Kansas City, Mo.
“The existing historic Red Bridge will remain in place and will be incorporated into the Kansas City, Mo., Parks’ systems as a bicycle and pedestrian bridge,” said James Wang, a project manager with CIMO.
Planned improvements include the widening of the road to a four-lane facility with left-turn lanes, bicycle lanes, curbs and sidewalks. Other improvements will include a new bridge to be built north of the existing bridge that will span the Blue River and the Union Pacific Railroad. The plans also call for removing the existing signalized railroad crossing, which will improve safety and eliminate the disruption of traffic flow due to trains.
“The open house format allows participants an opportunity to view the project display boards and discuss the project one-on-one with City staff and design consultants,” said Mandie Nelson, a communications specialist with CIMO.
