Manchester Bridge opens May 16
The recently completed Manchester (Choteau) Bridge over the United Pacific Railroad tracks will reopen the afternoon of Monday, May 16.
Construction of the bridge rehabilitation and the approach roadways began in the fall of 2003. The scope of the rehabilitated bridge included a wider deck, modified retaining walls, traffic controls and incidental works.
The cost of this project was funded largely as a result of the local sales tax passed by voters in 1999, which provided $4 million for this particular project. The voter-approved sales tax earmarked 25 percent of funds raised toward the replacement and rehabilitation of bridges throughout Kansas City. Approximately $5.2 million in federal funds also were used.
