New WIC clinic location to open April 15
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Health Department is partnering with Center School District to provide women, infant and child services, commonly known as WIC, at Boone Elementary School, 8817 Wornall Road, from 8:30-11 a.m. on Wednesdays starting April 15.
There will be a formal grand opening ceremony April 29 at 9 a.m. with 6th District City Councilmembers Cathy Jolly and John Sharp, and Merrell Bennekin, president of the Board of Education for Center School District.
Services offered by WIC include nutrition education and supplemental nutritious food for eligible infants, children up to five years old, pregnant women, women who have recently given birth and breastfeeding women. Referrals to health and social services are provided. To be eligible for WIC services, applicants must meet an income guideline and a WIC-determined nutrition or medical risk factor that relates to nutrition.
The Health Department also has WIC clinics at 2400 Troost Ave., on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and at the Baptiste Educational Center, 5401 E. 103rd St., on Tuesday. The department offers these services under a contract with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
