Safely dispose confidential information at Community Shredding Event
In an effort to combat identity theft and increase paper recycling, the City of Kansas City, Mo., invites residents to safely dispose their confidential documents at the Community Shredding Event this weekend. The shredding takes place Saturday, March 26 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Metro North Community Recycling Center, 400 NW Barry Road, and the Three Trails Community Recycling Center, intersection of 91st Street and Hillcrest Road.
City partner Bridging the Gap and Proshred, a paper shredding company, coordinated the event to provide an opportunity for local businesses and residents to ensure their confidential materials are securely destroyed in one of Proshred’s state-of-the-art mobile shredding vehicles. 100 percent of the shredded material will be recycled. Though this event is free, donations to various not-for-profit organizations will be accepted.
Identity theft is the fastest growing non-violent crime in the U.S., affecting more than 11 million people in 2009, an increase from nearly 10 million in 2008. Proper disposal of confidential documents will help residents protect their confidential information from identity thieves.
