Northeast 96th Street bridge closes

The City of Kansas City, Mo., is alerting motorists that construction projects will result in the closure of the Northeast 96th Street bridge at Reinking Road for one year.

Construction crews will close the bridge March 26 in preparation for demolition and replacement. The project is slated for completion in spring 2010.

Workers will replace the existing bridge with a prestressed concrete girder bridge. The new structure will be constructed to comply with the future Shoal Creek Parkway, featuring two 12-foot traffic lanes and a bicycle and pedestrian-friendly sidewalk.

All construction and demolition work is done as long as the weather permits. Drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians are reminded to use caution in areas adjacent to active construction sites.

Media inquiries about this issue should be directed to Sean Demory, communications specialist in the Capital Improvements Management Office, (816) 513-0059.
