City Councilman appointed to national advisory committee

City of Kansas City, Mo., City Councilman Russ Johnson, 2nd District, has been appointed to the National League of Cities’ Transportation Infrastructure and Services Steering Committee.

The committee is responsible for all National League of Cities policy on transportation issues, including planning, funding, safety and security of public transit, streets and highways, aviation, railroads and ports. The steering committee drafts policy positions for the National League of Cities and advocates for those positions to the U.S. Congress and the White House.

“I’m excited to work at the national level as Congress prepares to reauthorize the transportation bill,” Johnson said. “We can ensure that the needs of Kansas City are well-represented as federal officials make policy decisions that will affect us well into the future.”

Johnson is attending the steering committee meeting March 17 in Washington, D.C. Johnson is the chairman of the City’s Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and also serves on the Finance and Audit Committee. Johnson is a charter member of the National Multi-Modal Transportation Steering Committee and served on the Nation League of Cities’ Transportation Infrastructure and Services Advocacy Committee last year.
