Holmes Road lane restrictions start March 16
A water line replacement associated with the Red Bridge Road improvement project will result in lane restrictions on Holmes Road at the intersection of Holmes Road and Red Bridge Road from Wednesday, March 16 through Friday, March 18.
The center and inside lanes of southbound Holmes Road will be closed through the intersection of Holmes and Red Bridge roads in order to install a new waterline that will replace an outmoded six-inch line in the area. In addition, both lanes of northbound Holmes Road will merge into one lane in order to bypass the work zone. Drivers will be able to turn normally and will have access to businesses in the area. Traffic flow will revert to two lanes in each direction during peak and nighttime hours. Construction will occur between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
The two-year construction project will improve Red Bridge Road between Holmes Road and Blue River Road, adding curbs, sidewalks and other amenities to the south Kansas City arterial. In addition, the project will replace the current Red Bridge over the Blue River with a new structure more suited to the traffic needs of the area. The current Red Bridge will become a pedestrian and bicycle bridge on the nearby Minor Park fitness trail.
Media inquiries and other requests for more information about this closure or the Red Bridge Road construction project should be directed to Sean Demory, communications manager for the Capital Projects Office, 816-513-0059.
