The largest division within Public Works is the Street and Traffic Division located on the 19th floor of City Hall and at six other locations around the city. It is responsible for providing several services to the residents:
The Street Maintenance Section is responsible for patching potholes, minor bridge repair, cleaning roadside ditches and snow and ice removal. This also includes the 24-hour snow command post, which coordinates citywide snow and ice control operations and disseminates weather-related information.

This section consists of four areas: Traffic Signal Maintenance, Design and Construction, Signs and Pavement Marking S and the Street Lighting Group. This section also includes traffic studies for speed limit changes, stop signs, signal requests and traffic calming.
Traffic Engineering and Operations regularly reviews public requests for changes to traffic signs, updating them as needed. Recent updates are available for review.
The Planning Section develops a long-term plan of capital improvements and technical review of design plans for the Public Works Department.
The Streetlight Group within the Street and Traffic Division oversees the maintenance of the more than 90,000 streetlights in the City. Residents can report streetlight outages to the City's 3-1-1 Action Center at 816-513-1313 or email.
