FierroJohn Fierro, President
President Fierro is a native of Kansas City, Mo., growing up on the West Side, where he still resides today. He is the first Hispanic president of the City Kansas City, Mo., Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners in its 117-year history.

Commissioner Fierro has served on the Parks Board since 2005. He was reappointed to the board and named president by Mayor Funkhouser in June 2007. In his professional life, President Fierro is the executive director of the Mattie Rhodes Center, a non-profit organization with a mission to "bridge cultures and communities through arts, mental health and social services and empower individuals and families through culturally competent, bilingual services in a respectful and compassionate environment."


AikenTyrone Aiken, Commissioner
Commissioner Aiken is a native New Yorker who has traveled the world as a dancer, choreographer and teacher. He came to Kansas City in 1995 to join the Kansas City Friends of Alvin Ailey. As its executive director, he has taught dance to hundreds of Kansas City's children.
  


CongerMeghan Badwey Conger, Commissioner
Commissioner Conger is a former member of the Public Improvements Advisory Committee and active in the Briarcliff West Homes Association. She served as vice chair of the Neighborhood Tourist Development Fund for 12 years and has been a long-time advocate for safe parks. She is employed as an editorial associate for The Independent Magazine.       


StackhausAggie Stackhaus, Commissioner
Commissioner Stackhaus is a former City Councilwoman and former chair of the Jackson County Land Trust. She has a diverse list of experiences ranging from special education teacher and speech therapist to small-business owner.


 


WebsterAjamu K. Webster, Commissioner
Commissioner Webster, president of DuBois Consultants Civil and Structural Engineering, is a business leader, board member of the Black Chamber of Commerce and KC Chapter chairman of the National Black United Front. In addition, he volunteers with W.E.B. DuBois Learning Center, the African Centered Education Task force, Fathers-for-Life and Swope Corridor Renaissance.


mchenry_bMark L. McHenry, Director
Mark McHenry earned his bachelor's degree in park administration in 1974 and his master's in public administration in 1989. He has been a key staff member of Parks and Recreation since 1976, moving through the ranks of park district manager, superintendent of construction and development, superintendent of parks management, and beginning in 1988, deputy director. He has been project manager on such large projects as the new Zoo construction and the renovation of the Liberty Memorial.

In addition to his record of public management, Mr. McHenry has served as president of the local chapter of American Society for Public Administration, president of the Southwest Parks and Recreation Training Institute (SPRTI) and president of the Missouri Parks and Recreation Association (MPRA). He also is a member of the National Recreation and Parks Association and of the American Public Works Association.  He has received many awards throughout his distinguisehd career including the Outstanding Service Award from (SPRTI) and the 2009 Fellow Award from MPRA.


The Board of Parks and Recreation holds public meetings every other Tuesday at the Parks and Recreation Department Administration building, 4600 E. 63rd St. All meetings start at 2 p.m. and are open to the public.
