The Kansas City, Mo., Animal Shelter is open for adoptions weekdays from noon to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. It is currently operated by the Kansas City Pet Project.
Stray dogs are kept at the shelter for five business days before they are offered for adoption; stray cats for two business days. Cats or dogs relinquished by their owners to the shelter are put up for adoption the next day. You can view adoptable animals at PetFinder.com, but be aware they may be adopted by the time you get to the shelter! Adoption fees may be paid by cash, check, credit card or debit card. Pet licenses can also be purchased at the shelter when picking up your new friend, or can be obtained through your veterinarian.
