The Health Department's inspects all public and semi-public pools, spas and hot tubs in Kansas City, Mo. Pools are inspected on average once per month. Except for the opening inspection, all routine inspections are unscheduled. Before scheduling an opening inspection, please review the pool opening checklist. Once you have completed the checklist, call the Community Environmental Health Prgoram to schedule an opening inspection.
Pool operator classes
Pools, spas and hot tubs licensed by the Health Department are required to have a certified pool operator on staff or on contract, according to the "Public Health Rules & Regulations for the Operation & Maintenance of Swimming Pools & Bathing Facilities".
To satisfy this requirement, pool operators may attend classes offered at the Health Department at a cost of $25 per person, payable by cash or check.
The next pool operator class at the Health Department will be held Friday, April 9, 2010, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants will be able to sign in that day from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. that day. Payment is accepted during that time. The class will be limited to 50 participants. To pre-register, call (816) 513-6192. The Health Department also accepts certification through the National Swimming Pool Association and the National Recreation and Park Association, both of which offer local classes.
