The Environmental Public Health Program is responsible for conducting inspections on food establishments, lodging facilities, swimming pools and spas, and all licensed and license-exempt child care facilities within the limits of Kansas City, Mo.
In addition to these routine inspections, the Environmental Public Health Program responds to complaints, fires, natural disasters, truck wrecks, emergency calls, and other investigations that occur within Kansas City, Mo.
The program partners with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services to conduct annual inspections on lodging and child care facilities within Kansas City, Mo. Lodging inspections are conducted in accordance with 19 CSR 20-3.050 Sanitation and Safety Standards for Lodging Establishments. Child care sanitation inspections are conducted in accordance with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services Child Care Sanitation Inspection Manual.
All public pools, spas and hot tubs, and therapy pools are permitted and inspected by Environmental Public Health. Permitting occurs on an annual or seasonal basis depending upon whether the facility is indoor or outdoor. Routine inspections are completed once a month and as needed on these facilities in accordance with the "Kansas City, Mo., Health Department Public Health Rules & Regulations for the Operations and Maintenance of Swimming Pools & Bathing Facilities".
Permitting and inspecting all food establishments within Kansas City, Mo are also completed by Environmental Public Health. Through the inspection of all food establishments, the Health Department works to ensure that food served to the public is of the highest standard, free of food-borne illness and safe to eat.
Septic haulers which transport waste through the city limits of Kansas City, Mo must be inspected and permitted each year. Permits are valid from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31 each year. The permitting and inspections are completed through the EPHP.
