The City of Kansas City, Mo., Information Technology Division primarily provides internal support to the City. While information technology staff manage the City’s network and information technology systems for City departments, their support also extends to areas that are visible to our residents. For example, when residents visit City facilities or public spaces like the Power & Light District, they are able to take advantage of free Wi-Fi connectivity to the Internet. When residents call the 3-1-1 Action Center or other City departments, the equipment and network that connects the conversations, and the systems that intake the information and handle the request, are supplied and supported by information technology. When residents visit public spaces such as Bartle Hall, the Power & Light District, the Kauffman Center or Kaufman Stadium for the 2012 All-Star Game, information technology supports the video surveillance systems for the purposes of public safety.
