First Ladies Banner

Women are the fabric that hold communities together. This award is created to honor them. Their work is never-ending and of utmost importance.

“First Ladies of Kansas City” is an award that will be given each month to a Kansas City woman who has made outstanding contributions to the community and to her family. The person nominated for this resolution should be a woman who has consistently served the needs of others, while frequently going unnoticed herself. This resolution is to honor the women of our community who have given to many, but who have been served by few.
Selected recipients will be invited to City Hall to receive a special resolution in their honor.
Nominate a First Lady of Kansas City by emailing us at nominate@kcmo.org.

Be Somebody's Hero

There are many unsung heroes in our community. The most important are those that make a difference in a children’s lives. There are many children in our community who don’t have much in the way of parenting, so the person being nominated for this resolution should be someone who goes out of their way to make children feel important.
Selected recipients will be invited to City Hall to receive a special resolution in their honor.

Small Business Success Logo

Small businesses are the fabric of Kansas City’s business community. Almost all our “top ten” businesses started right here, and started as small businesses. This award goes a small business who stands out from the crowd, not just in financial success, but success in the community.
Selected recipients will be invited to City Hall to receive a special resolution in their honor.

Anniversaries Logo

Kansas City residents serve their city, and country, in a variety of ways.  None is more selfless than the service given by the members of our armed forces.  As the Mayor I would like to formally honor the sacrifice made by the men and women of Kansas City who serve overseas.

Equally important is the sacrifice made by the Kansas City families who worry and wait for their loved ones  to return home.  Whether it is a parent, spouse, or child, the family’s sacrifice should be recognized as well.

This resolution honors both the Kansas City military member who is serving their country overseas, and their family members who support them.

The family will accept the resolution, on behalf of the military member, at a City Council Legislative session.

Nominate a military member and their family by emailing us at nominate@kcmo.org.

Mayor's Town Hall Aug. 26, 2010

Mayor Mark Funkhouser attended a town hall session on Aug. 26 at Harmony Vineyard Church in the Northland. Those who attended asked questions about city sidewalks, the Port Authority of Kansas City, the potential recall of the earnings tax and other issues. The statewide election on the earnings tax, which is being financed and pushed by St. Louis billionaire Rex Sinquefield, is scheduled for Nov. 2. "It's designed to just destroy Kansas City," Mayor Funkhouser told the crowd. "I'm opposed to it and will fight with every tool I have."
