Councilman Ed Ford has been elected to the City Council to serve the 2nd District at large. “At large” refers to fact that he was elected from the entire city, while “in district” refers to councilmembers that are elected by only the residents of that district.

Councilman Ford currently serves on the Board of Directors for the EDC, Downtown Council and MARC. He co-chairs the MARC Total Transportation Committee and serves on the Transportation Committee of the Platte County EDC, the Clay County EDC Legislative committee, the Plans and Zoning Committee of the Northland Regional Chamber. In addition, he is on the Executive Committee of the Downtown Council.

Councilman Ford brings with him a wealth of knowledge gained from previously serving two consecutive terms as the 1st District at large councilman from 1995-2003 under Mayor Cleaver and Mayor Barnes. During his previous tenure, Councilman Ford was chairman of the Plans, Zoning and Economic Development Committee and also served on the Finance, Neighborhoods, and Legislative and Ethics Committees.

Due to term limits, Councilman Ford was unable to run for re-election in 2003, therefore he remained very active in the community. He served on the board of the KCATA and the Shoal Creek Living History Museum. Ed was also chair of the Planning and Development Committee of the Northland Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Councilman Ford is a St. Louis native that has made Kansas City his home. His wife, Sheryl, four children and grandchild are his biggest supporters.

Kansas City faces many unique challenges over the next four years. Councilman Ford’s experience in government, as well as his active involvement in the community, will ensure a productive course for the future of our city.
