Heroic firefighters among employees chosen for annual awards Tuesday, May 3, 2005
Firefighter Stephen Johnson and the team that rescued wounded MAST paramedic Mary Seymour in February 2004 will be among the City employees to be honored when the city, county and federal governments recognize their top performers this week at the 12th annual Public Employees Recognition Day Awards Ceremony. The event is at 2 p.m. May 5, in the Little Theater, 201 W. 13th St.

In the first quarter of 2005, the Kansas City, Mo., Health Department has seen a 62 percent increase in early syphilis cases with men who have sex with men in Kansas City, Mo., compared to this time last year.

Public Works Department crews have been preparing for a forecasted ice storm by pre-treating streets since Sunday evening, when the split-shift schedule was started. The split-shift schedule calls for half of the employees to come in at 7:30 a.m. and work until 7:30 p.m., while the other half of the workforce does the reverse.
