City reaches tentative agreement with Local 500 labor union Tuesday, July 29, 2008
The City of Kansas City, Mo., and the AFSCME Local 500 labor union have reached on July 25 a tentative settlement on a three-year work agreement. The agreement continues a variable pay program that compensates 1,800 of the City’s general laboring, trades, clerical and skilled trades employees. The package is not final until union members ratify the deal and the City Council approves it.

Heat index causes Health Department to issue heat advisory Monday, July 21, 2008
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Health Department has issued a heat advisory after consultation with the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, Mo., resulted in a forecasted heat index of 96 degrees by 11 a.m. today at the Kansas City International Airport. Once the Health Department issues a heat advisory, it remains in effect for the rest of the summer.
