Bike/Pedestrian coordinator receives Innovation Award Thursday, January 28, 2010
The City of Kansas City, Mo., bicycle and pedestrian coordinator, Deb Ridgway, has been recognized by Safe Kids Metro KC with the 2009 Innovation Award for her work founding and leading the Share the Road Safety Task Force. The task force brings together community safety advocates from across the region representing health, law enforcement, elected officials and municipal staff to address the high incidence of fatalities and crashes involving bicyclists and pedestrians.

Annual registration of Kansas City rental properties due Jan. 31 Wednesday, January 27, 2010
The City of Kansas City, Mo., is issuing another reminder that owners of rental dwellings located in the city must renew or establish registration of their rental properties with the City's Neighborhood and Community Services Department for 2010 before Feb 1. Annual registration of rental properties is part of the Rental Registration and Inspection Program that was established by the City Council with passage of ordinance No. 071046 in October 2007.

DOE prefers Texas site for hazardous waste mercury storage facility Wednesday, January 27, 2010
The City of Kansas City, Mo., has been informed that the U.S. Department of Energy has identified a facility near Andrews, Texas as the preferred site for locating a storage facility for elemental mercury. The Kansas City Plant at Bannister Road had been one of seven locations considered by the Department of Energy.
