Aim4Peace awarded $1.2 million grant by U.S. Department of Justice Monday, September 30, 2013
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Health Department’s Aim4Peace program has been selected by the U.S. Department of Justice to receive a three-year grant for $1.2 million to begin in October. The grant, one of six awarded nationwide by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, focuses on getting high risk youth involved in violence prevention efforts.

City completes $65.690 million special obligation bond issuance Friday, September 27, 2013
The City of Kansas City, Mo., successfully issued a total of $65.690 million in special obligation improvement and refunding bonds on Tuesday, Sept. 24. The bonds were issued in two series: Series 2013B was issued as tax-exempt in the amount of $46.2 million, and Series 2013C was issued as taxable in the amount of $19.490 million.

Nonprofits no longer exempt from convention tax beginning Oct. 1 Monday, September 16, 2013
On April 2, 2013, Kansas City, Mo., residents voted to remove all existing exemptions from payment of the convention and tourism tax on guests, with the exception of the exemption held by the United States government. The amendment, Section 68-564 of the City’s Code of Ordinances, goes into effect on Oct. 1.
