Water Services Employee Remembered and Honored For His Service

(Kansas City, Mo.) – Kansas City Water Services regretfully announces the loss of a valued Water Services employee, Donald Fenton, who was fatally injured while working in the field yesterday afternoon. Mr. Fenton, a Wastewater Maintenance Division Utility Repair Supervisor, was working on a sewer line repair when the fatal accident occurred. Mr. Fenton was an exceptional employee who served Water Services for 14 years.

"Donald’s dedication to his work and devotion to the team were a valuable part of our Department,” said Terry Leeds, Water Services Director. “Donald will be deeply missed and fondly remembered. His family, friends, and coworkers are in our thoughts as we work through this time of grief.”

"We were all shaken to hear of the tragic accident that claimed the life of a good and valuable member of Kansas City’s Water Services Department. Our thoughts and prayers arewith those Donald leaves behind, his family, friends and co-workers,” said Mayor Sly James. “This is a reminder that the jobs so many of our employees do in service of the citizens of our City are dangerous and difficult. Today of all days is a time to remember that daily lives are put on the line to make our City great.”

“The family, friends and coworkers of Donald Fenton are foremost in our thoughts and our hearts this week,” said Councilman Russ Johnson, Chair of the City Council’s Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. “The work performed by Water Services teams each day is significant and unheralded labor. It is with sincere appreciation and respect for our teams that we remember and honor Donald and his colleagues. ”

Each day, Water Services employees work diligently to ensure the accessibility and quality of our water, wastewater and stormwater systems for more than 460,000 Kansas City residents and 33 wholesale customers. The systems that are maintained by our dedicated staff are essential to safeguarding public health and well-being for Kansas City and the surrounding region. Water Services kindly requests privacy for the family and colleagues of Donald Fenton as they mourn this tragic loss.

The City of Kansas City, Missouri will be placing flags at half-mast this week in honor of Donald Fenton’s service to the City.
